Panthers Make Triad Trek to Take on Elon

ELON, N.C. – Last time out for HPU; #7 UVA won 1-0 in what was a back and forth battle. The Panthers travel to take on cross triad rival Elon on Wednesday at 7.

 MATCHUP HISTORY
 • High Point has met Elon 11 times over the years. The Phoenix lead the series 5-4-2 all time.
·     The last matchup against Elon was September 8, 2018. Jonathan Bolanos scored the Panther goal and was assisted by Siggi Benonysson. Luke Matthews scored the winning goal off of a corner in the 41st minute. The Phoenix won 2-1.
·     The Panthers will look to even their record in the series with a win this time out. HPU's current record against Elon is 4-5-2.
 
 
 Panther Notes
 
·     The panthers have faced two top 20 ranked opponents this season and have limited their success. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Keegan Meyer did not allow goals from the run of play against two top 20 teams.
·     Meyer and the defense shutout #7 UVA for a half, they are the only unranked team to do that this season.
·     The Panthers are being tested early in the season with 4 of their first 5 games being on the road. With 2 of those five games being against ranked opponents and 2018 NCAA Tournament teams (UNCC, UVA)
·     The Panthers have received offensive contributions from the veterans and their newcomers. Senior Siggi Benonysson scored the first goal of the season for the Panthers in the season opener against William & Mary.
Freshman Jordan Lonchar scored against William & Mary as well, his goal would ultimately be the difference-maker.
·     The Panthers have an international roster that features players from 7 different countries including The United States, Italy, England, Greece, Ghana, Iceland, and Norway.
 
 

The Phoenix
        Elon is 1-1-1 on the season; their last result was a 1-0 loss to Rutgers at home at Rudd Field. Elon is second in the CAA in goals scored averaging 2 per game. Christian Lauenborg has a team-best 2 goals and 1 assist on the season so far. Lauenborg leads the CAA in points with 5.
