HIGH POINT, N.C.— High Point University men's soccer continues its hot start to the 2018 season, hosting its first Big south game of the season, against Gardner-Webb this Saturday.
The Panthers enter their weekend contest after a decisive win at USC Upstate this past Tuesday, dropping the hosting Spartans by a final of 4-1. HPU's victory moves its record to 1-0 in Big South play this year, boosted by a pair of goals from forwards
Siggi Benonysson and
Ilias Kosmidis.
Having not played since September 12th, the Bulldogs will also be coming off a win, their first of the season, against USC Upstate. GWU put away the Spartans in a 3-0 shutout win, putting their conference record even with the Panthers at 1-0.

On the Panthers
•
Ilias Kosmidis recorded the first brace of his career in a Panther uniform, scoring a pair of first half goals against USC Upstate this past Tuesday. He currently leads the Big South with 12 points on the year
• Junior
Siggi Benonysson scored a pair of goals against the Spartans as well, giving his team their first four-goal effort of 2018
• Tuesday's victory was the second consecutive time the Panthers have opened conference play with a win, as they look to open the Big South season 2-0 for the first time since 2014
• The Panthers rank second in the Big South concerning goals scored per game (2.50) and are first in goals allowed per contest (1.31), giving them a differential of +7
• HPU's 2.50 goals per game currently rank sixth in all of Division I men's soccer, while its 1.31 goals against average is the top mark in the conference
• Freshman
Alex Abril recorded the first point of his HPU career with an assist on Benonysson's first goal at Upstate, he is one of seven Panthers to get on the scorecard this season, and joins Pineda (7) as one of two Panther freshmen with points in 2018

On the Bulldogs
• Gardner-Webb currently ranks third in the Big South concerning goals scored (10), however seven of those tallies have come in the team's last two contests alone
• With a pair of goals scored against USC Upstate, senior midfielder Joey Hack currently leads the Bulldogs with three goals on the year, he is the only player on GWU to have multiple tallies on the season
• Freshman Daniel Husa delivered a three-save clean sheet in his first-ever collegiate start against Upstate, after recently taking over the starting job from fellow first-year Grant Glorioso

• The Panthers have lost to Gardner-Webb in regulation just one time in their history, losing 2-0 in Boiling Springs (10/22/11)
• HPU is undefeated against the Bulldogs over the past six years, going 5-0-1 in the series during that time
