HIGH POINT, N.C.—The No. 25 High Point University women's lacrosse team used a pair of big runs to overcome Drexel, 21-10, Wednesday afternoon (March 28) at Vert Stadium.
 
The Panthers, who won their fifth-consecutive game to improve to 6-2 on the season, used a 7-0 run to jump out to a 7-1 lead. After the Dragons (2-7) cut the lead to three at 13-10 with 16:03 remaining in the second half, HPU scored eight straight goals to finish the game.
 
"This game was a true testament to our team and just how tough we are," HPU head coach Lyndsey Boswell said. "I felt early in the second half Drexel went on a little bit of a run and we were able to make very small adjustments, get focused and execute out game plan to finish the game."
 
Senior Brooke Stevens led the Panthers with a season-high nine points on five goals and four assists. Her five goals matched her career high, which was set last year also against the Dragons.
 
Freshman Abby Hormes scored a season-high five goals, while senior Darla Poulin posted six points on four goals and two assists. Senior Erica Perrotta and sophomore Ashley Britton each recorded two goals and an assist. The Panthers also had goals from juniors Allie Little and Valerie Pelling and freshman Rachel Foster. It was the first goal of the season for Pelling and Foster.
 
Redshirt-sophomore Meredith Chapman led HPU with six draw controls, while Perrotta added five. Perrotta also led the team with four caused turnovers and four ground balls.
 
The Panthers outshot the Dragons, 37-20, held an advantage in ground balls, 22-15, and draw controls, 18-15.
 
In goal, sophomore Jill Rall played the first half and made three saves, while freshman Sarah Zeto played the second frame and recorded one save.
 
After Drexel scored the first goal of the game, the Panthers tallied the next seven goals, including a hat trick from Poulin and a pair from Stevens. The Dragons scored the next three goals, all free-position marks, but HPU scored three out of the next four to go in at halftime with a 10-5 lead.
 
Next up, the Panthers open Big South play on Saturday (March 31) against Radford. First draw at Vert Stadium is set for 3 p.m.
