No. 15 High Point Opens Postseason Against Campbell

HIGH POINT, N.C.— No. 15 High Point University men's soccer begins its postseason run this Wednesday, as the top-seeded Panthers host the fourth-seeded Campbell Camels at home at 7 p.m.

The Panthers will be in search of their first Big South tournament championship, and their first NCAA Championship bid, after clinching the program's second straight regular season title. HPU came in as high as 15th in this week's 'College Soccer News' poll, while reaching a season-best of 20th in the 'United Soccer Coaches' poll. The Panthers are yet to lose to a Big South opponent all season, after completing their first undefeated record in conference-play since 2010. They will be facing a familiar foe in Campbell, after drawing with the side 1-1 last month in Buies Creek.

With the Panthers earning a 'bye' round in the quarterfinals, the Camels have already started their own postseason, dropping No. 5 Gardner-Webb in a 3-0 shutout. High Point is has beaten Campbell both times they have met in the Big South tournament, last defeating the Camels on penalties (5-3) back in 2012.

On the Panthers
• 11 Panthers were recognized by the Big South this past week with six players earning First-Team All-Conference. HPU also swept the conference's yearly superlative awards, with Ilias Kosmidis receiving Attacking Player of the Year, Johnny Fenwick earning Defensive Player of the Year, Tony Pineda collecting Freshman of the Year and HC EJ O'Keeffe garnering Coach of the Year
• HPU has already had its most successful regular season in Division I program history, with its winning percentage of .844 standing as the best the club has had since moving up a level in 1999
• The Panthers' Big South regular season championship is the third in the program's history, as HPU men's soccer picked up its second straight title this year
• High Point has one of the most productive attacks in the country with its 1.88 goals per game sitting 30th in Division I. The Panthers' leading scorer, Kosmidis, ranks 31st in goals scored (10) and ninth in game-winners (5)
• Ranking first in the Big South in goals against average (.955) and second in save percentage (.750), goalkeeper Keegan Meyer has six clean sheets this year, one short of 20 for his career
• Three HPU players sit in the country's top-100 when it comes to points on the year; Siggi Benonysson (T100th), Tony Pineda (T79th) and Ilias Kosmidis (T44th). Only two other athletes in the entire Big South conference rank that high nationally

On the Camels
• Campbell ranks 15th in Division I concerning assists per match (2.17), with Thibaut Jacquel leading the conference with eight in total, that's one more helper than the Panthers' Benonysson has on the season
• The Camels have gone 3-4-1 when playing on the road this year, they've won away from Buies Creek just once in the past six weeks
• Campbell's offensive strategy centers around taking a high volume of shots, as their 14.72 attempts per match rank 20th in all of Division I men's soccer

Series Notes:
• The Camels currently lead the all-time series against High Point, posting an 11-7-4 record when playing against the Panthers
• HPU and Campbell have gone back and forth over the past four years, each grabbing a pair of wins on the road when playing one another
• The Panthers and Camels have been separated by one goal or less in seven of their last eight meetings, with the pair working to a 1-1 draw earlier this season

Coming Up Next:
• Provided the Panthers beat the Camels this Wednesday, they will move on to play the winner of the No. 2 Radford/No. 3 Presbyterian match in the Big South championship final at Vert Stadium
• Even with a loss, HPU's high ranking in this year's polls puts the club in a position to earn an at-large bid to this year's NCAA Championship tournament, the first round of which begins November 15th
