HIGH POINT, N.C.—While battling the weather, the High Point University women's lacrosse team caused a school-record 23 turnovers and defeated Winthrop, 20-10, Wednesday afternoon (April 5) at Vert Stadium.

The Panthers won their eighth-consecutive game to improve to 8-3 on the season and 2-0 in Big South play, while the Eagles fell to 3-9 (0-2 Big South). High Point outshot Winthrop, 39-19, and ground balls, 23-18, while the Eagles had a slight edge in draw controls, 17-15.

The contest was stopped for 50 minutes for a lightning delay with 8:12 left in the first half with High Point leading 9-5.

HPU caused a school-record 23 turnovers, five more than the previous record of 18 against UC Davis on Feb. 29, 2012. The Panthers also dished out 13 assists as a team, tied for fourth-most in a single game in program history.

"I was really pleased to see how the girls handled the weather and the distraction there," HPU head coach
Lyndsey Boswell said. "We came out of the (weather) break with a few things that we talked about and I thought they did a better job of keeping their composure through that time."

Brooke Stevens had a career day, scoring 10 points on four goals and six assists. Her 10 points is the second-most in a single game in school history.

Darla Poulin scored a career-high six goals with an assist. Poulin's six scores ties the mark for second-most in a single game in program history.

Erica Perrotta each caused five turnovers, which is also tied for the second-most in a single contest in HPU history.

Perrotta and sophomore
Emory Gaeng each tallied three goals and three assists. The six points was a career high for Gaeng and a season-high for Perrotta.

The Panthers scored the first three goals of the game and never trailed in the contest. After the Eagles closed the gap to one at 6-5, High Point went on an 8-1 run to break open the game and take a 14-6 lead.

With the win, the Panthers now lead the all-time series, 5-3.
