HIGH POINT, N.C. – Senior Kat Harris led the High Point University women's basketball team with a career-high 29 points in a 77-61 setback to UAB on Sunday in the Millis Center.

The Panthers (4-3) couldn't overcome a slow start that saw them trail 22-8 after the first period. Playing from behind the whole afternoon, HPU cut the deficit to single digits on multiple occasions, but the Blazers (6-1) responded each time to hold on for the win.

Harris finished the afternoon with seven three-pointers on eight tries, which tied Kaylah Keys, Leslie Cook and Candyce Sellars for the most in a single game in HPU's history.

"First off, I'm proud of Kat Harris because her maturity and growth over the past couple of years has been unreal to see so I wish we could've gotten this win for her," head coach DeUnna Hendrix said. "We learned a lot from this game. UAB is underrated because that's a really good team. But we've been his so many different scenarios this week being down and coming back at Stetson to holding on at Norfolk State and then had a chance to get back into this one today. I just hope our kids really buy into the process because that's what it's all about."

Coming off the bench, Harris registered a career-high 29 points in the outing. The senior who has set career highs in scoring and three-pointers in each of her last two home contests.

"I have to give credit to our coaches for drawing up plays to get me open looks and my teammates for getting me the ball when I was hot," Harris said. "I was just trying to do whatever I could to get the win."

Harris' three-point barrage allowed the Purple & White to outshot UAB from beyond the arc. Despite the Blazers entering the game as the nation's No. 14 three-point shooting team they shot 5-of-17 (29.4) percent as HPU hit on nine of its 15 attempts (60.0 percent).

While the Panthers won the battle from deep, UAB used its size to post a 44-27 edge on the boards and a 38-16 margin in points in the paint. The visitors also shot better overall (50.0 to 35.0) in the win.

Despite the Blazers controlling the inside, redshirt-junior Kennedy Currie accounted for eight points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Joining her inside, junior Shea Morgan chipped in with seven points, six boards and three steals.

At the point, sophomore Camryn Brown paced the team with four assists and added seven points. Meanwhile, junior Lindsey Edwards posted seven points and three assists in the loss.
