HIGH POINT, N.C.—The High Point University men's basketball team had four players in double figures on the way to a 90-66 victory over Averett in an exhibition game Sunday (Nov. 5) at the Millis Center.

The Panthers shot 62.5 percent from the field, while holding the Cougars to 40.7 percent shooting. HPU forced 23 turnovers and outrebounded Averett, 37-32.

Junior Ricky Madison came off the bench to lead all scorers with 18 points on 9-of-10 shooting. Sophomore transfer Jahaad Proctor tallied 17 points, while fellow sophomore transfer Brandonn Kamga posted nine points and nine rebounds.

Junior Andre Fox hit a pair of threes en route to 14 points, while sophomore Jamal Wright had 11 points and a team-leading six assists. Freshman Justyn Mutts was 4-for-4 from the field and had a pair of highlight-reel dunks.

The Panthers stymied the Averett offense in the first half, holding the Cougars without a field goal for a five-minute stretch and to just 30.4 percent shooting in the first half. HPU held a 43-17 advantage at the break.

James Contreras Jr. led the Cougars with 15 points, while Jalen Burnett added 10.

HPU opens the 2017-18 regular season at the Millis Center against William & Mary with tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Big South Network, while coverage on the High Point Panthers Radio Network will commence at 7:30 p.m.
