High Point Notes:
• High Point is the No. 1 seed in the tournament for the third time in program history (2012, 2016). HPU earned the No. 1 seed over Liberty via the league's fifth tiebreaker (goal differential).
• The Panthers earned consecutive regular season conference championships for the first time in the 26-year history of the program with a 2-0 victory at Presbyterian on Saturday. HPU won its final four conference matches, including three shutouts.
• High Point placed seven players on the league's All-Conference teams, tying the 2011 squad for the most in program history. For the third straight year, three players were named to the league's first team:
Alex Hank, Paige Lloyd, and
Becca Rolfe.
• Four of HPU's seven league victories came in extra time on golden goals by
Paige Rombach (Radford),
Bri Jean-Charles (CSU), Rolfe (Gardner-Webb), and
Bailey Beattie (Winthrop). HPU is now unbeaten in its last 13 regular season OT matches over the last three years, posting a 6-0-7 mark.
• HPU finished tied for first in the league in GAA (0.42) in conference play, allowing just four goals, which was tied for the fewest in the league. High Point was one of two teams in the league to post at least six shutouts (Liberty) against conference competition.
Winthrop Notes:
• Winthrop finished tied for eighth in the league with seven points, but earned the tiebreaker over UNC Asheville via a head-to-head triumph.
• Allie Thomas was named to the league's All-Conference first team after leading the Eagles with 15 points (7G, 1A). The seven goals were tied for the third most in the conference.
• Ashlynn Harris has been Winthrop's goalkeeper in each of the last eight matches, registering a 1.44 GAA and .745 save pct.
• WU is back in the league tournament after missing last year, and is looking to advance for the first time since 2013.
Series Notes:
• High Point and Winthrop are squaring off for the second time this year. HPU won the first matchup, 3-2 in overtime, on Oct. 14. It was the only conference game in which HPU yielded two goals.
• The Panthers and Eagles have met four times in the league tournament. HPU holds a 2-1-1 edge in the previous meetings.
• The last three times HPU advanced to the NCAA tournament involved a result over Winthrop in the league tournament:
- 2009: T 0-0 in Championship (Won 4-2 on PK's)
- 2010: W 1-0 in Semifinals
- 2014: W 1-0 in Quarterfinals
