HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women's basketball team open the New Year by kicking off Big South action against Winthrop on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Millis Center.

The Panthers (2-9) wrapped up non-conference play in a hard-fought 69-67 overtime setback to UNCG while the Eagles (1-11) haven't played since taking a 88-48 defeat at Ohio State on Dec. 21.

Quick Hitters
• Against the Spartans, Carol-Anne Obusek registered another career-best performance hitting 5-of-6 shots en route to a career-high 10 points in 18 minutes. In the last two games, the forward is averaging 8.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 17.5 minutes despite playing only 28 minutes and scoring six points in the team's first nine games of the season.

• Kennedy Currie returned to the floor in a big way on Friday playing a career high 26 minutes while racking up six points, six rebounds, two steals, two assists and two blocks.

• Outside of her record scoring pace, Kaylah Keys is headed toward other remarkable career milestones. The guard needs 61 rebounds, 27 assists and 18 steals to become the first Panther in the team's Division I era to rack up 400 rebounds, 300 assists and 200 steals.

• Kat Harris has paced the Purple & White in scoring in three of the last five games while averaging 14.1 points per game on the strength of 11-of-24 shooting from beyond the arc (.458).

• Harris is now 30-of-35 (.857) from the line this year, which is good for second in the Big South as she looks to repeat as the league's top free thrower.

• The Panthers are sharing the ball at a high level this season. After assisting on 50.5 percent of the team's field goals in 2015-16, the squad is helping on 60.0 percent of its made baskets this winter.

• Eight different Panthers have posted double-digit scoring efforts this season led by Kaylah Keys' seven double-digit outings this year. Last season, the squad only featured seven players with a double-figure scoring outing.

• The Panthers are the top 3-point shooting and free throw shooting team in the Big South for the second straight season.

All-Time Series with Winthrop
Tuesday marks the 47th meeting all-time between the Big South rivals with the Panthers holding a 26-20 edge. Last season, High Point earned three wins over Winthrop by an average of 15 points. Haleigh Hatfield enjoyed great success in the matchup averaging 13.0 point and 9.0 rebounds per contest while Kaylah Keys hit 7-of-11 three-point attempts versus the Eagles.

Scouting the Eagles
Like HPU, Winthrop faced a tough non-conference slate and enters league play at 1-11. However, the Eagles still have one of the best players in the Big South in Erica Williams who averages 13.9 points per contest.

The Matchup to Watch
Although, they likely won't guard each other the scoring matchup between Kaylah Keys and Erica Williams could get interesting. They both rank in the top 20 in the Big South career -coring list.

Next Up
High Point will make its first road trip of the conference season on Saturday to take on Liberty at 7 p.m. in the Vines Center in Lynchburg, Va.
