HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men's basketball team will look to get back on track at home when the team welcomes Liberty to the Millis Center for a Big South conference showdown on Wednesday, Jan. 11.
 
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Kevin Burke and Stafford Stephenson will be back on the call on the High Point Panthers Radio Network, with pre-game coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m.
 
PAW PRINTS
• High Point fell to 1-3 in the Big South with an 88-58 loss to UNC Asheville on the road on Saturday. The Panthers outscored Asheville in the paint and outrebounded the Bulldogs but were unable to overcome the host's hot hand from the outside as UNC Asheville hit 13 3-pointers in the contest.
 
• Redshirt-senior Miles Bowman posted his seventh double-double of the season in the loss to the Bulldogs, leading High Point with 16 points and 11 rebounds on the afternoon. Senior Anthony Lindauer hit three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points while fellow senior Tarique Thompson scored 10 off the bench.
 
• High Point has excelled in free throw shooting on the road, going 120-158 (.759). High Point ranks fifth in the Big South in free throw percentage at .696 (256-368) and the team ranks in the top 100 in the nation in both free throws attempted (80th) and free throws made (88th). After going 8-8 from the Charity stripe at UNC Asheville, Bowman Jr., leads the Big South and is 32nd in the nation in free throw percentage at .892 (58-65).
 
•  Freshman Jamal Wright currently sits second in the Big South in assists per game (3.7) in his first collegiate campaign. He has 56 assists while committing just 38 turnovers and is also second in the conference with a 1.6 assist-to-turnover ratio.
 
•  Bowman Jr. is one of 45 players nationally with at least six double-doubles in 2016-17. The redshirt-senior is second in the Big South and 54th nationally in rebounds/game (9.0).
 
HISTORY vs. LIBERTY
High Point trails in the all-time series against Liberty with a 16-21 record in 37 all-time meetings with the Flames. The Panthers dropped both games against Linerty last season by a combined six points, falling in Lynchburg by a score of 69-67 and then again at the Millis Center just two weeks later by a score of 80-76. Four players finished in double figures for HPU in both games, led by John Brown who averaged 20 points per game in the two contests. Anthony Lindauer finished in double figures in both games and averaged 12 points per game in the two meetings. The Panthers' two losses to Liberty last season ended a streak of three-straight wins over the Flames for HPU. High Point's last win over Liberty came on Jan. 29, 2015 when the Purple & white picked up a 72-53 win at the Millis Center.
 
HISTORY vs. OPPONENTS FROM VIRGINIA
High Point has complied a 75-70 (.517) record all-time against Div. I programs hailing from the Old Dominion State. HPU's most common opponents are Radford (19-22, .463), Liberty (16-21, .432) and Longwood (21-7, .750). High Point is 56-50 (.528) against Big South programs from Virginia and 19-20 (.487) against the rest of the state's Div. I teams. HPU is 0-2 against teams from Virginia this season having lost at Virginia Tech  and at home against Longwood.
 
A LOOK AT THE FLAMES (8-9, 3-1 BIG SOUTH)
Liberty has earned conference wins over Presbyterian College, Charleston Southern and Campbell this season and enters Wednesday's game with an 8-9 overall record and a 3-1 mark in the Big South. The Flames have the top defense in the Big South this season, allowing just 65.3 points per game. Liberty is fourth in opponent field gial percentage and opponent 3-point percentage. The Flames have allowed more than 70 points just six times in 17 games. Redshirt-junior Ryan Kemrite leads the team in scoring at 13.9 points per game while shooting .525 overall and .446 from behind the arc. Caleb Homesley is the only other Liberty player averaging double figures at 12.9 points per game. He also leads the Flames with 6.3 rebounds per game while John Dawson is tops on the team in assists at 2.9 per game. As a team, Liberty is averaging 25 attempts from behind the arc per game and over nine makes.
 
UP NEXT
High Point remains home this weekend when the team will play host to Presbyterian College at the Millis Center on Saturday, Jan. 14. Tip in the game is set for 7 p.m. High Point went 2-0 against the Blue Hose last season and has won six-straight over Presbyterian dating back to 2013.
