HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men's cross country team returns to the competitive course this Saturday when the Panthers suit up for the Greensboro XC Invitational.
The Panthers will run at 1:45 p.m. alongside a number of collegiate squads. HPU will race against Averett, Concord, Emory & Henry, Fayetteville State, Ferrum, North Carolina Central, North Carolina Wesleyan, Pfeiffer, Shaw and Winston-Salem State, among others.
The race will serve as a tune-up for next weekend's Big South preview meet, the Asheville Cross Country Challenge.
Last time out, the Panthers finished 10
th out of 15 teams in an elite field at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown.
In Boston, sophomore
Alejandro Juan Torres led the Panthers at historic Franklin Park, placing 35th in a time of 25:39.20. In addition to Torres, senior
Vinny Todaro put together a strong race, finishing 37th in 25:43.
Senior and Brookline, Mass., product
Chernet Sisay placed 59th in 26:14 while freshman
Sean McGinnis crossed the finish line in 26:19 to finish 64th.
Saturday's race is the second event over a three-week span for the Purple & White, before the Panthers take a week off in preparation for the team's home race, the VertCross Invitational (Oct. 14).
