HIGH POINT, N. C. – The High Point University women's soccer team kicks off the regular season with a road contest at inter-Triad Rival UNCG on Friday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m., in Greensboro, N.C. HPU earned its first-ever win over the Spartans last season at Vert Stadium.
The Panthers head into the weekend having played exhibition games against 2015 NCAA Tournament participants UNC Wilmington and South Carolina. High Point drew with UNCW, 0-0, on the road and fell to the Gamecocks by a score of 2-0 at home.
Defending Big South Defensive Player of the Year
Alex Hank looks to be picking up where she left off last season with eight saves and one goal allowed in 90 minutes of action through the two contests.
UNCG drew with Big South opponent Campbell, 1-1, in the team's only game of the preseason. Georgia Brown scored the lone goal of the contest for the Spartans who have been picked third in the Southern Conference.
Brown, a 2015 first-team All-Southern Conference selection, is one of four All-SoCon honorees that return for a UNCG team that finished with a 9-9- 3 last season. Other returners include reigning SoCon Freshman of the Year, Caylin Prillaman, who had five goals and two assists last season, and All-Conference defenders Regan Lehman and Gabbi Charles.
High Point is 1-5-0 all-time against UNCG after earning the 2-0 win at home over the Spartans last season.
Michele Micciche scored the game-winner for the Panthers while Hank made five saves to pick up the clean sheet.
