BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The High Point University baseball team dropped its second game of the weekend to Gardner-Webb by a score of 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in Boiling Springs, N.C. The series loss is the Panthers' first since opening weekend.

"This game will humble you and it is brutal when things aren't going right," head coach Craig Cozart said. "We are struggling offensively right now. That is part of the ebb and flow of a season and we need to keep our heads. This team has a strong will and mentality and I expect us to fight through this."

Junior Andre Scrubb took the loss for the Panthers and dropped to 6-3 for the season. Scrubb gave up three earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out nine in his six innings of work.

Jeremy Walker pitched a complete game to improve to 5-4 for Gardner-Webb. Walker allowed just one earned run on one hit and one walk and struck out four.

High Point falls to 22-13 overall and 7-4 in the Big South while GWU improves to 25-13 overall and 5-6 in conference play.

Gardner-Webb strung together four-straight ground ball single to score the first run of the day and load the bases in the fourth. A double play then allowed a second run to score as the Runnin' Bulldogs went ahead 2-0.

A solo home run by Mason Fox put Gardner-Webb up 3-0 in the fifth before junior Chris Clare returned the favor with his first home run of the season to lead off the seventh, making the score 3-1.

High Point and Gardner-Webb wrap up their three-game series on Sunday, April 17, in Boiling Springs, N.C., at 2 p.m. The Panthers need a win to avoid their first series sweep of the season.
