BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The High Point University women's soccer team went on the road and took all three points with a 2-0 win at Campbell on Wednesday night in Buies Creek, N.C. Redshirt-junior
Bailey Beattie and redshirt-sophomore
Meredith Dunker both scored in the contest for the Panthers.
"I thought we worked extremely hard tonight against a very good Campbell squad," head coach
Marty Beall said. "They put us under a lot of pressure offensively throughout the game and I thought we did a good job in the back to withstand that pressure. I am very happy to walk away from this game with three points on the road."
High Point remains undefeated in Big South play with a 3-0-0 mark in conference action and the team improved to 7-4-1 overall with the win. Campbell drops to 7-6-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the Big South.
Beattie opened the scoring for HPU with a goal in the 16th minute to put the Panthers in front, 1-0. Junior
Becca Rolfe delivered a throw into the box and the goalkeeper attempted to corral the ball. Perrell challenged the keeper and knocked the ball loose in front of goal where Beattie tapped it in.
The Panther lead remained 1-0 until the 77th minute when Dunker doubled the lead with her second goal of the season. A misplayed ball at the top of the Camel box fell to Dunker who lifted a shot into the upper 90 for a 2-0 lead.
Campbell won the possession battle on the night and outshot High Point, 18-9, but both teams managed to put just four shots on frame. Junior
Alex Hank stopped four Camel shots to record her second-straight shutout and her fourth of the season. The win was the 22nd of Hank's career, tying her with former HPU keeper Andrea Ritchie for the program's Div. I record.
The Panthers return home on Saturday, Nov. 8 for a game against UNC Asheville at Vert Stadium. The match will kickoff at 7 p.m.
