HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women's soccer team fell to UNC Asheville, 1-0, on a stormy Saturday night at Vert Stadium. The Panthers had 19 shots in the game but were unable to find a goal.

"Credit to UNC Asheville, they simply outworked us tonight," head coach Marty Beall said. "We have to learn from this loss and move forward."

The loss is High Point's first against a non-Power 5 school this season and it drops the Panthers' record to 7-5-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the Big South. UNC Asheville improves to 7-8-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the conference with its second-straight Big South win.

The lone goal of the night came on a penalty kick by the Bulldog's Paige Trent in the 65th minute. The Asheville forward beat junior Alex Hank with a shot to the lower left corner to put UNC Asheville ahead, 1-0.

High Point pressed for an equalizer but struggled to beat an organized Asheville backline. HPU outshot the Bulldogs, 19-8, but managed just four shots on goal.

High Point next hosts Longwood in Big South action on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Vert Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
