Panthers to face Appalachian State Friday

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women's soccer team returns to the road this weekend when they travel to face Appalachian State in Boone, N.C., on Friday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m.

The Panthers sport a 4-0-2 record in 2015 and are one of 27 undefeated teams left in the nation heading into the weekend. High Point picked up 2-0 wins over Stetson and North Florida at home last weekend to remain undefeated. Sophomore Becca Rolfe scored three of HPU's four goals on the weekend and was named the Big South Offensive Player of the Week.

Rolfe leads High Point with six points on three goals this season. She is one seven different HPU players that have scored a goal through six games this season. Fellow sophomore Michele Micciche is the only other Panther player with multiple goals, notching two so far this season. Sophomore Meredith Dunker paces the Panthers with three assists.

Sophomore Alex Persiani and freshman Emily Lyon have both performed well in net for High Point. Both players have started three games on the season with Persiani sporting a 1-0-2 record and a 0.58 goals-against average and Lyon boasting a 3-0-0 record and a 0.33 goals-against average. Both players have two shutouts on the season as HPU has allowed just three goals in six games.

Appalachian State is 3-2-0 this season following a 1-0 loss at George Mason on Sunday. The Mountaineers also have wins over UNC Wilmington, Mercer and UMBC and a loss to Radford. Merlin Beckwith leads ASU with six points on two goals and two assists through the first five games of 2015. She is the only player on the squad with more than one goal or one assist on the season. Senior Megan Roberson has started all five games in net and is 3-2-0 with a 0.86 goals-against average and a .700 save percentage.

High Point is 2-2-0 in four all-time meetings with Appalachian State. The two teams last faced off in 2013 when the Panthers picked up a 2-1 win over ASU in overtime at Vert Stadium. Kelsey Perrell scored the game-winning goal in the 109th minute for HPU.
