HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University men's track & field freshman sprinter
James House has been named the Big South men's indoor track athlete of the week, the league announced Wednesday.
Â
In the first meet of his career, House shined for the Panthers with top-4 finishes in the 60m dash and the 200m dash. His 60m time of 6.87 seconds was just .04 seconds off the HPU school record, while his 200m time of 22.30 was just .02 seconds off the school record.
Â
"James tested well in the fall and I knew he'd be good, but I'm thrilled with how quickly he's progressed," assistant coach
Nate Thiesfeld said. "His 60m time was a nice surprise. I knew he was fast but didn't realize he could approach the school record and post the top mark in the conference in his first week out. With the way he's been practicing, everything fell into place and it's great to see him get off to such a solid start."
Â
A native of Cary, N.C., House put together an outstanding high school career at Cary High School where he holds the school record in the 100m dash, 4x100m relay and 4x200m relay.
Â
HPU has earned a Big South weekly honor in its first two performance weeks of the indoor season. Junior
Austin Miller was named the Big South men's indoor field athlete of the week on Dec. 11 after breaking the school record in the pole vault at the JDL Kick-Off Classic on Dec. 6.
