Keys earns fourth Big South Freshman of the Week honor

Kaylah Keys of the High Point University women's basketball team earned her league-leading fourth Big South Freshman of the Week honor, the league announced on Monday. Keys averaged 21.3 points per game in three games for the Panthers last week.

Keys recorded 19 points in HPU's win over Liberty on Dec. 30. She bested that performance by scoring 21 points, dishing out two assists, and swiping a career-high five steals on the road against Coastal Carolina Thursday night. Keys once again topped her previous performance in points in the win on Saturday against Campbell scoring 24 points in 34 minutes of action, including 20 in the second half to lead the Panthers from two down at half to a 14 point victory.

Keys has been dominant through HPU's first five conference games this season. Keys has scored over 20 points in four of the Panthers' five conference matches and is averaging 22.6 points per game against Big South foes, a full five points better than any other scorer in the league. The guard is also leading the league during conference play knocking down four three-point shots per game on 43.5 percent shooting beyond the arc.

This is the fourth Big South Freshman of the Week honor for Keys, who won the honor three consecutive weeks in December. The freshman has now scored 226 points this year, which is the third most points in the league.

Keys ranks among the league leaders in several other offensive categories as well. Her 2.29 three-pointers per game and 37.2 three-point shooting percentage both place third in the league. In addition, Keys' 16.1 points and 2.3 three-pointers per game rank her fourth in the conference and lead all Big South freshmen. Keys also leads all freshmen with 3.6 free-throws made per game.

High Point returns home to continue conference play on Thursday as the Panthers take on Presbyterian College at 7 p.m. at the Millis Center. HPU will then host Charleston Southern at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
