The High Point University men's soccer team played Radford to a 0-0 draw in double-overtime for the second consecutive year on a windy Wednesday night in Radford, Va. Junior
Colscon Wiley led the Panthers with two shots on goal in the contest and redshirt-sophomore
Kody Palmer recorded one save for HPU.
"I'm very pleased with our team's effort tonight", head coach
Dustin Fonder said. "These were very difficult conditions to play in and we were able to create good chances with the wind at our back but neither team could get much going against the wind."
High Point's best scoring chance in regulation came early in the first half when Wiley took a pass from senior
Adam Sewell in the left side of the box and let loose a shot in the 16th minute. Wiley's attempt beat Radford keeper Dane Wilson, who came out to cut down the angle, but rolled just wide of the right post.
HPU posted four shots in overtime but were unable to capitalize. The Panthers threatened early in extra time with two shots in the 92nd minute. Junior
Mamadee Nyepon hit a shot that Wilson punched over his head. The rebound bounced off the crossbar to freshman
Chris Ramsell who blasted a shot that sailed just over the goal.
Radford outshot High Point 14-12 on the night but the Panthers managed six shots on goal compared to the Highlanders' three. The draw moves High Point to 4-7-3 on the year and 2-2-2 in the Big South. Radford moves to 4-5-4 and 1-2-2 in league play.
HPU returns home next to face Campbell on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The Camels are 4-6-3 overall and 4-0-1 in conference play following a 3-1 win on Wednesday night over Longwood. Kick off is set for 7:00 p.m.
