The High Point University volleyball team finished competition in the War Eagle Classic hosted by Auburn on Saturday with a loss to Georgia Southern. Sophomore Kristin Heldt finished the match with 12 kills and was named to the All-Tournament team.

Senior Courtney Johnk hit .500 and led the team with 15 kills in the 3-1 (19-25, 20-25, 25-21, 20-25) loss to the Eagles. Sophomore Chelsea Davis posted a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs and senior Molly Barlow had a match-high 21 digs.

“We definitely came out with a better mindset today,” said head coach Jason Oliver. “Again, we had stretches where we played great volleyball and stretches with too many mistakes. Georgia Southern played a really consistent game and it should serve as an example to us of how we want to play. We have a big match against UNC Greensboro on Tuesday and we need to defend our home court.”

High Point held off the sweep with a win in the third set. The fourth set was a battle with 12 ties before Georgia Southern took the final lead 17-16 on a kill by Enjoli Johnson. The Eagles went on to win the set 25-18.

Davis erased an early Georgia Southern lead with a kill to tie the first set 13-13. The Eagles fought back, scoring the next four points. GSU maintained the four-point lead for the rest of the frame and won 25-19. Heldt had five kills in the frame.

Jamie McDonald put down a kill to give HPU an 12-11 lead they would not give up. High Point led the frame by as many as six points, 20-14 on a kill by Davis. The Panthers won the set 25-20 and forced Georgia Southern to hit -.024 for the frame with 12 attack errors.

The Panthers used an 8-2 run to cut Georgia Southern's third-set lead from 18-10 to 20-18. The Eagles held off HPU's run and won the set 25-21. Johnk had five kills on eight swings in the set.

High Point returns to the Millis Center on Tuesday to face local-rival UNC Greensboro. The match will being at 7 p.m.
