The High Point University volleyball team lost in three sets to Radford Friday on the road. Junior Courtney Johnk had a match-high 14 kills in the 3-0 (23-25, 23-25, 21-25) loss.

HPU falls to 6-19 (4-7 Big South) with the loss while Radford improves to 12-15 (6-5 Big South).

"Radford gets all the credit for getting the points when they needed them," said head coach Jason Oliver. "At moments we played with them and even better than them but in the clutch they found a way to win. We've got to find a way to win the important points."

HPU led late in every set but the Highlanders were able to complete comebacks to win on their home court. Johnk hit .258 with 14 kills while freshman Chelsea Davis had 12 kills and nine digs. Kristin Heldt added eight kills and four blocks and Michelle Chakirelis recorded seven kills.

The Highlanders outlasted HPU in the first set, pulling off a 25-23 win. A pair of Radford freshman, Emma Deininger and Rachel Wiecheki spurred the RU win. Deininger had seven kills without an error and Radford scored seven straight points with Wiecheki at the service line. High Point led 23-21 in the set when Deininger put down three straight kills to give Radford set point 24-23. Chakirelis hit the ball out of bounds to seal the frame for the Highlanders.

Radford won the second set with another late run. The match was tied 21-21 when RU put up two straight blocks to take a 23-21 lead. Rachel Brummitt aced Johnk to bring up set point. The Panthers stayed in the match with kills by Johnk and Heldt but Wiechcki answered with her fifth kill of the frame to win it for Radford 25-23.

Wiechecki was back at the service line with the final set tied 21-21. She led the Highlanders to four straight points, including an ace, to close out the set with Radford winning 25-21.

Lauren Bell had a double-double with 39 assists and 10 digs and Molly Barlow came up with 10 digs in the loss.

High Point will play its final road game of the regular season on Saturday at Liberty. The match will begin at 2 p.m. The Panthers topped the Flames 3-0 at the Millis Center earlier this season.
