After winning the first set 26-24 the High Point University volleyball team lost three straight sets, falling to Boise State 1-3 Friday in Davidson, N.C. It is the first of three matches in the Nfinity Wildcat Classic hosted by Davidson.

With the score tied 24-24 senior captain Audie Gonzalez served two straight aces to lead HPU to a 26-24 win. The Panthers trailed 19-23 in the frame but Megan Smith put down a kill to bring Molly Barlow in to serve. The Broncos committed two service errors, one at the hands of a block by Gonzalez and Stephanie Wallin, making it a 22-23 HPU deficit. The teams traded attack errors before Gonzalez secured the win for HPU with a kill and two aces. HPU hit .214 in the set with 14 kills.

HPU led late in the second set, pulling out to a 23-21 lead on a service ace by Julie Hershkowitz. Three straight High Point attack errors gave Boise State back the lead 24-23 and the Broncos' Fiona Jones won the set with a kill, 25-23.

Boise State carried the momentum through the final two sets, winning 25-18 and 25-14.
Hershkowitz had a match-high 18 digs. Barlow finished the day with 3 aces and three digs. Smith recorded nine kills, Gonzalez had seven and Wallin finished the match with six. Maddie Simpson had 21 assists, three aces and two solo blocks.

HPU continues competition in the Nfinity Wildcat Classic Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against host-Davidson. The Panthers also play Eastern Michigan at 4:30 on Saturday.
