The High Point University women's soccer team surrendered an early goal to Davidson and was unable to find an equalizer, falling by a score of 1-0 to the Wildcats on Sunday evening in Davidson, N.C. Junior
Katie Taber led HPU with two shots while freshman
Jesse May made five saves in the second half.
“I thought we gave up that early goal but if we can start a game like we played in the second half we can make some amazing strides,” head coach
Marty Beall said. “I feel like we played very well tonight overall. Our possession was very good. The girls are working hard and we are competing better and better.”
Davidson got on the board first with a goal off a corner by Tori Krause in the 7th minute. The Wildcats Allison Drutchas earned the assist after lofting a fantastic ball to the far post where Krause had the header to give Davidson a 1-0 lead.

Sammy Vercellino and
Kelli Joline each made runs late in the game down the flanks to create scoring chances but a cross by Vercellino was cleared away and a shot by Joline was saved by Wildcat goalkeeper Jessie Baxa.
High Point's next game is Sunday, Sept. 5 when the Panthers head to Durham, N.C., to play the Duke Blue Devils. Kick-off for the match is set for 6 p.m.
