The High Point University volleyball team lost a tough battle to visiting Marshall, 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-23), in the final match of the High Point University Classic Sunday at the Millis Center. HPU got eight kills from junior middle blocker Stephanie Wallin. She also added five digs and two blocks and was named to the HPU Classic All-Tournament Team.

"We played very tough tonight. It was like night and day from our first match Saturday to the match against Marshall," said head coach Jason Oliver. "We can't have that big a variance in how we play or we won't be a championship team. It is a bittersweet feeling, a lot of people consider a .500 weekend good but our expectations are higher. We want to win championships. Overall it was a great tournament, run well, by a great staff here at High Point. I think every team had a great experience."

Marshall's junior setter Elizabeth Fleming was named Tournament MVP and junior outside hitter Emily Sullivan was named to the All-Tournament team. Alexandria Brown from Winston-Salem State, Hayley Lawson of Davidson and Jenna Litoborski from Charlotte round out the HPU Classic All-Tournament team.

Junior outside hitter Megan Smith put together another terrific effort with 13 kills, eight digs and one block. Sophomore setter Holly Fong put up 29 assists and senior captain Megan Kaminskas had three blocks in the loss.

In the first set Marshall and HPU both put down 14 kills but the Herd limited themselves to three attack erros while the Panthers committed seven. Junior middle blocker Anna Lott had four kills and a .429 attack percentage but the Panthers dropped the set 25-21.

HPU managed to outhit the Herd .205 to .149 in the second frame but Sullivan hit a set-high .667 for Marshall and her four kills were the difference in the set. MU took the second set 25-22.

Wallin hit .429 in the third set and Lott put down three kills in four attempts but the Herd rallied behind seven kills from Herman to take set three 25-23, and win the match 3-0.

High Point finished the weekend 2-2 with wins over Charlotte and Winston-Salem State and losses to Davidson and Marshall. The Panthers are now 6-3 on the season. HPU hosts Elon Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Millis Center.
