High Point University outshot Davidson, 8-4, in the second half but couldn't overcome a first-half Wildcat goal, taking a 1-0 loss on Sunday at Vert Stadium. Goalkeeper

Jillie Johnston (Naperville, Ill., Naperville Central) had a pair of shots on goal for HPU.
"After the first 15-20 minutes, we really settled down and played some good soccer, and played great possessions against an excellent Davidson team," said High Point head coach 
Marty Beall. "In the second half I was really happy with how the team responded to what we talked about at halftime. I couldn't be more pleased with how hard this team is working and how willing they are to do the things we're asking them to do."
High Point had some strong scoring chances late in the game, including a shot off the post by 
Katie Taber (Lockport, N.Y., Lockport) at 61:45. Johnston had a shot on goal that Davidson keeper Loring Ward saved t 85:53, and the Panthers had their only corner of the game at 88:07, but they could not find the back of the net to even the score. 
Lauren Stockell (St. Louis, Mo., Eureka), 
Christa White (Cary, N.C., Cary Christian) and 
Courtney Spotts (Fort Collins, Colo., Fort Collins) also had shots on goal in the game.
Davidson took a 1-0 advantage in the first half on a goal by Kyri Bye-Nagel. Allison Drutchas took a corner for the Wildcats and Bye-Nagel headed it past Abbott for the score at 15:17. Abbott had five saves in the half.
The first half was mostly even with Davidson taking a 6-5 shot advantage early, before the Wildcats got the final five shots of the half to make it 11-5. Spotts put the Panthers' lone shot on goal early in the game, and White also had a solid scoring opportunity from the left side. 
High Point University is in action with a pair of road games this week. The Panthers play local rival UNC Greensboro on Thursday and Campbell on Saturday, with both games starting at 7 p.m.
