The High Point University volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-23) to Coastal Carolina Saturday at Kimbel Arena. The Panthers improved every set, even leading late in the third but couldn't hold off the Chanticleers. Sophomore setter Holly Fong (Sebastopol, Calif., El Molino) put up 29 assists and distributed the ball to five different HPU attackers.

Despite four Panthers with three kills each, HPU dropped the first set 25-19. The Chanticleers outhit High Point .406 to .235 in the frame. HPU was behind from the beginning but Courtney Johnk (Larkspur, Calif., Redwood) brought the Panthers within three at 17-20 with back-to-back kills. Stephanie Wallin (Plymouth, Minn., Robbinsdale Armstrong) put down a kill to make it 18-20 but CCU went on a 6-1 run to take the first set 25-19.

The Panthers once again found themselves trailing early in the second set. Coastal Carolina jumped out to a 14-6 lead but HPU battled back to within two at 18-20 on a blocking error by Coastal. Again the Chanticleers finished the set strong with a 6-2 run to win the set 25-20. Megan Smith (Bellbrook, Ohio, Bellbrook) had four kills in the set.

HPU took its first lead of the match in the third set at 11-10 on an attack error by the Chants. HPU would extend the lead by as much as five at 21-16 on a kill by Smith but CCU rallied to tie the match at 23-23. Anna Lott (Lincoln, Neb., Lincoln Northeast) was blocked and Johnk committed an attack error and CCU took the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.

Megan Kaminskas (Flagstaff, Ariz., Flagstaff), Smith and Wallin each totaled seven kills in the match while Lott added six and Johnk put down five kills. Kaminskas also had five blocks in the match.

HPU (13-13, 3-7 BSC) begins a five-game homestand Wednesday when the Panthers host Radford at 7 p.m.
