The High Point University volleyball team extended its winning streak to three games with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-18) sweep of Charleston Southern Saturday at the Millis Center. The Panthers improve to 13-11 (3-5 Big South).
HPU had a very balanced attack with
Megan Smith (Bellbrook, Ohio, Bellbrook) leading the way with nine kills.
Megan Kaminskas (Flagstaff, Ariz., Flagstaff) and
Anna Lott (Lincoln, Neb., Lincoln Northeast) each contributed eight kills while
Stephanie Wallin (Plymouth, Minn., Robbinsdale Armstrong) added seven and
Courtney Johnk (Larkspur, Calif., Redwood) put down six kills.
Kaminskas also contributed two solo blocks and six helpers and two service aces while Johnk had career-high five blocks.
High Point jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the first set and never let CSU back in the game. Smith led the way for the Panthers in the first set with five kills while sophomore setter
Holly Fong (Sebastopol, Calif., El Molino) put up 11 assists to lead the Panthers to a 25-10 set win.
Kaminskas, Wallin and Lott shared the workload with three kills each in the second set, leading High Point to a 25-12 set win.
Charleston Southern attempted a comeback in the third set, taking a leading the set as late as 13-12. Lott had a kill to knot the score at 13-13 and HPU took the lead on a Lady Bucs attack error. High Point would hold off CSU for the rest of the set, going on to win it 25-18 and take the match 3-0.
Fong finished the match with 36 assists and junior libero
Julie Hershkowitz (Scottsdale, Ariz., Seton Catholic) had a match-high 12 digs. Wallin and Fong each had two service aces.
HPU is back on the road next weekend with games at Winthrop and Coastal Carolina. The Panthers fell to both teams earlier in the season.
