Freshman Shamia Brown posted 20 of her career-high tying 22 points in the first half as the High Point University women's basketball team dropped Elon, 82-48 on Thursday night in the Millis Athletic Center.

Brown shot 11-of-12 from the field on the night and pulled down five rebounds for the Panthers (8-9). LaTeisha Dean added 13 points on 6-of-10 while grabbing seven boards. Mackenzie Maier and Tedi McKoy both had seven rebounds also.  Frances Fields and Jurica Hargraves dished out eight and seven assists, respectively.

Leading the Phoenix (1-16) was Julie Taylor, Erica Keto and Sharwil Bell with eight points each. Amber Wall pulled down eight rebounds.

High Point came out on fire, taking an early 15-2 lead off a three pointer from Hargraves at the 14:04 mark. The Phoenix fought back with a 13-6 run to cut the lead down to six (21-15) at 8:24 with a layup from Taylor. That would be the final basket for Elon in the opening period of play as HPU closed out the half with a 20-0 run to take a 42-15 lead into the break.

The Panthers continued their run into second half, taking a 36 point lead at 17:20 off of Brown's final basket of the game. HPU would get its largest lead of the game with 6:40 remaining, up 38 (76-38) when Kirsty Pfahl drilled a three pointer.

HPU and Elon were even on the boards with 45 each. The Panthers forced 22 turnovers and hit 14 points off of turnovers. HPU dished out 26 assists as a team and blocked 10 shots.

High Point will return to Big South play on Monday, Jan. 19 when the team travels to Winthrop. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Winthrop Coliseum.
