In a hard fought 90 minutes of defensive soccer, the High Point University women's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision to the College of Charleston at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium.
The Panthers (3-2-3) held a slight 6-4 advantage in shot attempts for the game, but all of the Cougars went on frame as they stayed undefeated on the season at 7-0-0.
The defenses dominated play in the opening half as each team was only able to get off two shots. The second half continued to be highlighted by strong defensive plays with the Cougars able to capitalize on a penalty kick to secure the win.
When HPU was whistled for a foul in the box at the 58:51 mark, Charleston's Megan Manthey stepped in and pushed the game winner into the right corner of the net.
A few minutes later, High Point's Courtney Spotts appeared to have scored the equalizer but the goal was called back when HPU was determined to have been offsides.
High Point continues their September-long road stretch next Sunday (Sept. 21) with a trip to Statesboro, Ga., for a 1 p.m. tilt at Georgia Southern.
