Box Score

The High Point University women's soccer team opened the road portion of their 2008 schedule by outplaying the Chattanooga Lady Mocs in a 0-0 tie on Friday night at the North River Complex.

The Panthers moved to 0-1-2 on the season after tallying their second tie of the season while Chattanooga is now 0-1-1. High Point held an edge in shot attempts including a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal. HPU also earned a 6-2 lead in corner kick attempts.

"We had some very unselfish players tonight," said HPU head coach Michelle Rayner. "Our attacking players have got to look to score when we have the chances. We played brilliantly on both ends of the field all night long, but we just need to find ways to finish our scoring opportunities. Our team has got to learn to put teams away when we have the chance."

Freshman goalkeeper Andrea Ritchie recorded her first career shutout for the Panthers after facing just one shot on goal in 110 minutes of action. The High Point defense held the Lady Moc offense in check throughout the contest.

Laura Shupe tallied a pair of shot attempts to pace a Panther offense that saw eight different players take a shot.

High Point returns home on Sunday for a game against USC-Upstate at 2 p.m. Sunday's tilt marks the Panthers final home appearance until an October 4 contest versus Winthrop.
