Women's Basketball Falls to Campbell, 67-56

After struggling with their shot all night the High Point University women's basketball team fell to Campbell, 67-56 on Tuesday night in Gilbert Craig Gore Arena in Buies Creek, N.C. The Panthers shot just 30.6-percent from the floor and connected for just one three pointer. HPU is averaging 42.1-percent from the field and 36.9-percent from behind the arc on the season.

Leading the Panthers (2-7) was sophomore Mackenzie Maier who posted a season-high 17 points while freshman Shamia Brown tallied 12. Ashlee' Samuels and Amy Dodd each had seven rebounds and Dodd dished out a career-high seven assists.

For the Camels (4-1) Lauren Arthur led a quartet of players in double figures. Amanda O'Neill and Ashley Williamson each had 11 while Jessica Mack posted 10 points. Williamson also pulled down a game-high 16 boards.

In the opening period HPU and CU were evenly matched with eight ties and seven lead changes in the opening period. The two teams were last tied at the 5:44 mark off a jumper from HPU's Brown. The Camels would go on a 7-0 run though to take their largest lead of the half, 27-20 with 3:27 on the clock. High Point responded to close out the period with a 5-2 run and cut the difference down to 29-25 going in to the intermission.

The Panthers cut the lead down to two in the first minutes of the second half off a layup from Brown. But the Camels responded with an 18-6 run to take a 14 (47-33) point lead with 12:28 to play. High Point would cut the lead to seven with 4:45 to go, but that is as close as they would come as Campbell held on to the lead.

Campbell held the 53-45 advantage on the boards, but the Panthers held on to the ball well recording just 10 turnover while forcing 17.

High Point will be back in action after the exam break when the team hosts Chowan on Dec. 20 at 4:00 p.m.
