The High Point University men's soccer team played Gardner-Webb to a 1-1 tie on Friday night at the Vert Track and Soccer Stadium to open the 2007 season.

The two teams went scoreless in the opening period of the contest. GWU (0-0-1) came out in the second half to score the first goal of the game in the 49th minute when Bradley Morrison caught a pass from Adam Augruso in the top right corner of the box to fire it in to pull the Bulldogs ahead, 1-0.

HPU's (0-0-1) freshman Scott Rojo responded in the 80th minute when he connected with the back of the goal after picking up a long free kick from Panther goalkeeper Corey Whisenhunt, Rojo launched the ball from just inside the left side of the box.

The Bulldogs held the slight advantage in shots at 12-11. Whisenhunt had three saves for the Panthers while Gardner-Webb's Dane Geraci stopped one.

High Point will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. when it hosts Coker College in the Vert Track and Soccer Stadium.
