Radford Upsets High Point, 63-60

Radford upset High Point tonight, 63-60 in women's basketball action at the Dedmon Center in Radford, Va. The Panthers fall to 17-7 (8-3 Big South) on the season while the Highlanders improve to 12-12 (5-6 Big South).

 

Leading HPU was Katie O'Dell and Raven Truslow with 17 points each. O'Dell also had 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double this season.

 

For the Highlanders Kelli Darden led with 23 points while Shavon Earp added 13. Corrie Fertitta pulled down 12 boards.

 

The Panthers started the game strong with an opening jumper from O'Dell. Radford responded with a lay-up from Darden. High Point went on an eight point run and a seven point run in the half to take a 38-29 lead into halftime.

 

Coming out of the break the Panthers hit back-to-back three pointers from O'Dell and Leslie Cook to spark an 8-1 run to put the Panthers ahead by 17 and their largest lead of the game. The Highlanders battled back out-shooting the Panthers 31-11 over the next 10 minutes to pull ahead by three with 37 seconds remaining. High Point cut the lead down to one with a three pointer from Truslow but was unable to come up with an answer in the end.

 

Radford was 16-of-25 from the line in the second half.

 

High Point will return to action on Saturday when they host Coastal Carolina. Game time is set for 3 p.m. in the Millis Athletic Center.
