Box Score Senior Katie O'Dell dropped in 21 points to lead High Point past Coastal Carolina 69-60. The Panthers improve to 14-4 (5-0 Big South) while the Chanticleers fall to 10-6 (1-4, Big South).
Katie Ralls and Caitlin Thys also hit in double figures with 13 and 12, respectively. O'Dell and Thys fell just short of recording double-doubles with O'Dell leading in the rebounding category with nine and Thys just behind with eight.
For the Chanticleers, Alisha Dill led with an 18 point effort. Amber Rose added 12 while Kim Turner knocked down 11.
Coastal got on the board first with a jumper from Calisha Yates, but the Panthers responded with two from O'Dell. The Chanticleers quickly took control of the game over the next 14 minutes and jumped out to a 16 (31-15) point lead.
The Panthers quickly rallied and went on an 18-0 run over the last six minutes of the half, sparked by back to back lay-ups from Thys and a three-pointer from Leslie Cook. High Point took a 33-31 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the intermission the Chanticleers tied up the game with a pair of made free throws by Dill before High Point again responded with three straight lay-ups to pull ahead by six. The Panthers controlled the second half of the game and led by as many as 13 in the final minute.
High Point held the narrow advantage on the boards, out-rebounding Coastal 38-36. The Panthers had seven steals, led by Candyce Sellars with four. High Point scored 17 points off turnovers to Coastal's 11.
The Panthers return to action on Monday, Jan. 30 against Charleston Southern. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Charleston, S.C.
