Women's Basketball Drops Radford, 66-53

The High Point University women's basketball team dropped Big South Conference opponent Radford today, 66-53.

 

Leading the Panthers (12-4, 3-0 Big South) was senior Katie O'Dell who scored 16 points and fell just short of a double-double with a team leading nine rebounds. Juniors Leslie Cook and Katie Ralls also posted double figures with 12 and 10, respectively.

 

The Highlanders (9-7, 2-1 Big South) had three players in double figures with Kelli Darden leading with 13. Serena White added 12 while Shavon Earp tossed in 11.

 

Radford opened the game with a six to nothing run before Ralls hit a layup at 16:43 to put the Panthers on the board. High Point went on a three basket run to take the lead for the first time. Radford quickly responded with back to back baskets. The first half continued to be a back and forth battle with High Point taking the slight (35-31) advantage into halftime.

 

High Point opened the second half with a seven to zero run to increase their lead to 11 in the opening two minutes. The Panthers never looked back and continued to dominate the second half.

 

Radford cut the lead to three with a three pointer from Earp at 13:07, but HPU quickly responded with back to back baskets and the Highlanders would never get within one possession again.

 

High Point led in the assists category with 16 to Radford's six. Candyce Sellars dished the ball five times to lead the team. The Panthers also led with 50 rebounds to 44.

 

The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 25 when they host Big South rival Liberty. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
