Box Score High Point's women's basketball team saw its season come to a close with a 75-53 setback at the hands of UNC Asheville in the semifinals of the 2005 Advance Auto Parts Big South Women's Basketball Championship Friday night in Lynchburg.
Freshman Raven Truslow scored a career-high 20 points to lead the Panthers, but the third-seeded Bulldogs shot 62 percent in the second half to advance to Saturday's final against top-seeded Liberty.
HPU saw its nine-game win streak come to a close and finishes the season at 17-12.
UNCA (18-11) got 20 points from freshman Stacy Shepard, a double-double from Amanda Elder (16 points, 10 rebounds), and 15 points from Kristal Hood.
The Bulldogs got revenge after being swept by the Panthers in the regular season.
The game was close through the first 27 minutes, as the lead exchanged hands five times in addition to eight ties, including a 28-28 knot at the half. The Panthers led by five at 20-15 following an old-fashioned three-point play by Katie Ralls at the 8:31 mark of the opening half.
Truslow scored 15 points before halftime on 7-of-8 from the field.
Tied at 35-35, UNCA rattled off a 21-7 run to surge ahead, 56-42. HPU shot just 23 percent (6-of-26) in the final 20 minutes and didn't get within 13 points the rest of the way.
UNCA's defense held High Point leading scorer Katie O'Dell (15.0 average) to six points and 1-of-10 shooting from the field.
Charlena Martin finished her HPU career with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds. The game was the final collegiate contest for Martin, Chan Ingram and Emily Mills.
