Box Score Candyce Sellars tied her career high with 20 points and High Point made 11 three-pointers in a big 61-44 win over UNC Asheville Saturday afternoon in Big South Conference women's basketball action at the Justice Center.
The Panthers (12-11, 7-3 Big South) won their fourth-straight game and kept sole possession of second place in the Big South, while the Bulldogs drop to 13-10 on the season and 5-5 in league play.
Sellars was 4-of-7 from behind the arc and also notched a game-high three blocks for HPU. Charlena Martin added 16 points, six assists, and five boards for the Panthers, while Katie O'Dell pitched in six points and six rebounds.
Ashton Barton scored 17 points (16 points in the second half) and tallied eight boards for the Bulldogs, while Andrea Clapp notched 10 points and six rebounds.
UNC Asheville was first on the board, scoring two points off of Amanda Elder's (six points and eight rebounds) free throws, but O'Dell nailed a three-pointer at the 17:56 mark and the Panthers never looked back. High Point took a 29-17 lead to the locker room.
In the early stages of the second half, the Bulldogs cut the margin to seven points before HPU went on a 12-0 run led by Sellars, who tallied seven of her game-high 20 points in the span.
High Point leads third-place Charleston Southern (5-4) by 1 1/2 games and is two full games ahead of UNCA. Eight-time defending Big South champion Liberty (9-0) leads the League.
The Panthers return home on Monday to play Birmingham-Southern in the Millis Center at 7:00 pm.
UNCA will host Winthrop on Wednesday night in the Justice Center at 7:00 pm.
