Senior Issa Konare finished with a 23 point, 10 rebound double-double on Saturday afternoon to lead High Point to an impressive 88-72 road win at Longwood.

The Panthers improved to 6-2 on the season with their third straight victory while Longwood slips to 2-8 on the year. The win also gives High Point its best start in its NCAA Division I program history.

In addition to Konare's stellar play, HPU also got 22 points from Arizona Reid along with 12 points by Akeem Scott and a career-best 13 by Mike Jefferson. Jefferson also led the way for the Panthers with a team best six assists.

Michael Jefferson led the way for the Lancers finishing with 18 points including 16 in the second half with Lamar Barrett scoring 14 to also reach double figures. Morgan Clayton led all players with 15 rebounds to give Longwood a 37-29 edge in rebounding for the game.

High Point broke open a close game midway through the opening frame outscoring Longwood, 24-6, en route to a 50-29 halftime advantage. The Panthers blistered the nets at a 61.8 percent (21 of 34) pace in the first half and shot 57 percent from the floor for the game.

The Lancers made a surge to start the second half outscoring HPU 17-9 for their smallest deficit, 59-46, before High Point answered with a 14-3 run of its own to put things away for good. The Panthers led by as many as 27 points several times in the closing stanza.

The Panthers will now take another 11 days off from competition for the Christmas break before returning to the hardwood after the holiday with a two-game swing through the state of Utah. HPU plays at Utah on Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. (MT) and faces Utah Valley State on Dec. 30 at 7:05 p.m. (MT).
