High Point drops the 2005 season finale, 3-2, tonight on the road at Longwood. The Panthers fall to 1-13-3 on the season while the Lancers improve to 7-10-2.
The Panthers got off to a strong start, up 2-0 on the Lancers early in the match. High Point picked up the first goal when a Longwood defender inadvertently sent a free kick by HPU's Cole Atkins into the goal in the 15th minute. High Point scored again in the 22nd minute when Tyler Bush crossed the ball into Chris Archer who connected with the back of the net. Tonight's goal marks Archer's fourth of the year.
Longwood fought back against the early Panther lead when in the 33rd minute Elvis Cosic was on target for the goal. Setting up Cosic was Leon Malca and Max Griessbach. Sean Harvey scored the other two goals for the Lancers with one coming in the 68th minute and the second one in the 79th minute.
Longwood took the 12-6 advantage in shots, and the 6-2 edge in corner kick opportunities. Lancer goalkeeper Brandt Youmans made two saves in the contest while Adam Ross collected two for High Point.
Next up for High Point is the 2005 Big South Men's Soccer Tournament. The Panthers are this year's host team and enter the tournament as the six seed. HPU will face number three seed Coastal Carolina in the opening round on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
