High Point men's soccer fell to Birmingham-Southern tonight 4-2 at BSC Soccer Park.
HPU's first goal came from
Dan Haywood in the 35th minute on a pass from
Chris Archer. Haywood's goal cut the early BSC lead to 2-1. In the 43rd minute freshman
Tyler Bush connected with the back of the goal to tie the game going into the half. Bush's goal came off a HPU corner kick. Haywood's goal marks his fifth for the season, while Bush scored his first in the 2005 campaign.
BSC jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on goals from Thimo Langner and Gino Cozzolino. Langner punched the game's first goal off a cross from Floreal Pedrazo that was mishandled by the HP goalkeeper in the 16th minute. Cozzolino scored off a feed from Pedrazo in the 25th minute for a 2-0 advantage.
Cozzolino also connected for a goal in the 78th minute to break a 2-2 tie and gave BSC a 3-2 lead off a corner kick. Pedrazo, who had two assists, added an insurance goal in the 85th minute for the final margin of victory.
High Point falls to 0-12-3, 0-5-1 in the Big South for the season.
While Birmingham improves to 10-4-1 overall and 5-1-1 in conference play.
HPU will next be in action on Wednesday, Nov. 2 when the team travels to Lexington, Va. to battle VMI. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
