Box Score 2 Furman edged past High Point, taking three games by a total of ten points (30-26, 31-29, 30-26) for a 3-0 win Saturday in the third match for both teams of the City Hotel & Bistro Pirate Volleyball Invitational in Greenville, N.C.
Later in the day, the Panthers dropped another tight three-game match to Lamar (30-24, 30-25, 30-27).
FURMAN 3, HIGH POINT 0
Freshman Jamie Kaufman led High Point with 11 kills, while Lindsey Pickens also reached double-figures with 10 kills. Ashley Johnson paced HPU with a .462 hitting percentage.
High Point fell despite out-hitting the Paladins, .257 to .250.
Furman got 15 kills from Whitney Purser and 14 kills from Chibuzo Aguocha. Michelle Feiser tallied 35 assists and Kim Anderson added 13 digs (both match highs) for HPU.
LAMAR 3, HIGH POINT 0
Molli Abel provided 18 kills to propel Lamar past the Panthers, who got 13 kills apiece from Pickens and Kaufman.
Feiser also turned in a solid effort (five kills on a .571 hitting percentage, 24 assists, seven digs), while three members of the HPU defense reached double-figures in digs: Anderson (13), Pickens (10) and Jenelle Stouffer (10).
The Panthers host Davidson Tuesday night in their 2004 home opener. First serve in the Millis Center is set for 7:00 pm.
