Women's Soccer Drops 1-0 Heartbreaker To NC State

High Point put up a fierce fight against regional power North Carolina State, but Erin Griswold's 66th-minute goal was the difference as the host Wolfpack held off the Panthers, 1-0, Tuesday night at SAS Soccer Park in Cary.

NC State, ranked No. 9 in the Southeast by Soccer Buzz, improves to 7-1-2 on the season, while the Panthers (5-4-0) saw their two-game win streak snapped in heartbreaking fashion. Three of HPU's four losses this season have been by identical 1-0 scores.

Hannah Nail made three saves in net for the Panthers, who were out-shot, 11-4. Each team had four shots on goal.

Carolyn Bader led HPU with three shots, while Jen Evans had the other.

The lone goal of the game came when Griswold scored from 15 yards away off an assist from Lydia McBath. Megan Connors stopped all four shots she faced to earn the shutout for the Wolfpack.

"I'm proud of our performance tonight against a good team," HPU head coach Tracie Foels said. "The final score doesn't show the heart our kids played with on the road against an ACC opponent. We have a lot to be proud of, and hopefully we can get back on track on Saturday."

HPU puts its perfect (2-0-0) Big South mark on the line Saturday afternoon at UNC Asheville. Kickoff is set for 2:00 pm.
