Box Score

Lindsey Pickens had 15 kills and 12 digs and Jamie Kaufman added 13 kills to help High Point complete a season sweep of Radford with a 3-0 win over the Highlanders Friday night at the Dedmon Center in Radford.

After their 30-25, 30-27, 30-28 win, the Panthers improve to 16-12 (5-4 in Big South play). Radford falls to 3-18 overall and 0-9 in the Big South.

Michelle Feiser had 43 assists for HPU, while Tara Mahoney (nine kills on a team-high .381 hitting percentage) also had a strong offensive match for the Panthers. Whitney Kaltenegger tallied three aces.

Kim Anderson tallied 16 digs to increase her streak of matches with at least 10 digs to 32 straight contests.

"This was a great win on the road, and a huge win in conference for us," HPU head coach Chad Esposito said. "We needed this to keep our push in the conference standings. We were outstanding as a team tonight -- we picked up a ton of balls and did a great job of covering our hitters.

"If you can grind out long rallies, be consistent and aggressive on offense and hustle on defense, that wins ballgames."

The Panthers took control midway through game one with an 8-1 run and held off a Radford rally to take an early lead.

The Highlanders played catch-up for most of game two, but used a 6-0 run to knot the score at 24-24. The teams traded points before HPU scored three straight to win 30-27.

A 5-0 run early in game three gave the Panthers the advantage, but RU, down by as many as eight, used its own run of seven straight to close to within one. The Panthers were able to hold off Radford to earn a 30-28 win and secure the match on a Pickens sideout.

Kate McHugh led the Highlanders with a double-double, tallying 11 kills and 11 digs. McHugh hit .286 for the match. Josie Hanners collected 21 assists and Christine German had three service aces.

"We're excited about the win, but know that we'll have to come with same intensity against Liberty," Esposito said.
