Women's Soccer Blanks Charleston Southern, 2-0

Amy Anzovino and Emily Lanham scored first-half goals and Courtney Noel recorded her second-career shutout in High Point's 2-0 win over Charleston Southern Saturday afternoon in Big South Conference women's soccer action at Albion Millis Stadium.

The Panthers improve to 7-6-0 (3-2-0 in Big South play), while the Lady Bucs drop to 6-8-1 (1-3-1).

Noel made three saves in goal for the Panthers, who out-shot the Lady Bucs by a 21-7 count and held a 7-3 edge in shots-on-goal.

Katie Flickinger made five saves in goal for Charleston Southern.

The defending Big South-champion Panthers got on the board in the 10th minute when passes by Ryan Hays and Megan Fielden led to Anzovino's team-leading eighth goal of the season, which came after she knocked a shot past Flickinger from eight yards away for a 1-0 lead.

HPU made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute, when Traci Andersen served Lanham in the box and she put it home for her second goal of the year. The Panthers took that 2-0 lead to intermission, and out-shot the Lady Bucs, 12-4 in the first half.

The Panthers out-shot CSU 9-3 after halftime. Neither team was able to muster a goal in the second half.

The Lady Bucs, who held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks, got a team-high two shots from Katie Crona and Natalie Jackson. Fielden led the Panthers with five shots.

High Point visits Birmingham-Southern on Thursday night (8:00 pm EDT) before returning home next Saturday night to host South Carolina State (7:00 pm). Charleston Southern hosts intra-city rival College of Charleston on Wednesday (3:00 pm).
