Box Score Birmingham-Southern remained unbeaten in Big South Conference play with a 3-1 win over High Point Friday night in a volleyball battle of Panthers at Bill Battle Coliseum in Birmingham.
BSC (7-6, 3-0 Big South) took the match by a linescore of 30-26, 22-30, 30-20, 30-20.
Kim Anderson led High Point with 26 digs, and reached double-figures in digs for the 23rd-consecutive match dating back to November 2003. Jamie Kaufman paced the Panthers offensively with 16 kills, while Lindsey Pickens (11 kills, 14 digs) and Michelle Feiser (35 assists, 13 digs) each notched double-doubles.
Ashley Johnson had eight kills and three blocks on a .300 hitting percentage for HPU.
For BSC, Kyndall Waters (50 assists, 14 digs) and Jana Smelley (21 kills, 15 digs) both recorded double-doubles in the win. Lindsey Herzog also recorded a career-high 30 digs in the match.
BSC won the first game, 30-26, but dropped the second game, with High Point (8-9, 2-2) winning by a 30-22 count. BSC went on to win the final two games, both by scores of 30-20, to clinch the match and remain unbeaten in Big South action.
In game four, the two teams kept the score close until BSC rattled off eight straight points to extend its lead to 29-18. High Point won the next point, bringing the score to 29-19, but Smelley recorded the final kill to win the match for Birmingham-Southern.
HPU hosts a tri-match on Tuesday in the Millis Center which will spotlight all three levels of NCAA volleyball. The Panthers will meet Division II Catawba at 4:00 pm and Division III Guilford at 8:00 pm, with Catawba and Guilford facing off at 6:00 pm.
