Box Score Katie O'Dell recorded her third double-double of the season (19 points, 11 rebounds) to lead High Point to a 67-59 win over Coastal Carolina Monday night in front of a regional-television audience from the Millis Center.
The Panthers (9-9 overall) move above .500 in Big South play at 3-2, while the Lady Chants fall to 8-9 (2-3 in the Conference).
Charlena Martin (16 points) and Chan Ingram (10 points) also reached double-figures for the Panthers. Kate Jenner pulled down 10 rebounds for the Panthers, who won the battle of the boards by a 47-27 count.
Nikki Reddick paced the Lady Chants with 17 points, while Cyndie Troutman added 12 points and Crystal Brown chipped in 11 points.
O'Dell scored 11 first-half points to help HPU to a 10-point advantage before Coastal chipped away and cut the halftime margin to 36-29 after a Troutman layup in the final seconds.
The Lady Chants opened the second period with a 13-3 run and took their first (and only) lead of the game at 39-38 on a fast-break layup from Troutman. But Martin answered for the Panthers a minute later, and HPU wouldn't trail again.
Coastal pulled within two points at 59-57 with 1:51 to go after Reddick scored on a driving layup, but the Panthers made free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory.
The teams combined for 53 turnovers.
