Women's Basketball Defeats Charleston Southern, 72-57

High Point got a game-high 20 points from Katie O'Dell to defeat Charleston Southern, 72-57, Saturday afternoon in Big South women's basketball action at the Millis Center.

The Panthers improve to 8-9 and 2-2 in the Big South, while Charleston Southern falls to 4-12 and 1-3 in the conference.

Charleston Southern pulled ahead after a 10-2 run capped off with a layup by Lisa Crandall (12 points) to give the Lady Bucs a 22-13 advantage at the 8:53 mark. But High Point chipped away and re-took the lead with a 9-0 run that ended on a fast-break layup from Chan Ingram (eight points). HPU led 31-28 at the half and never trailed again.

High Point's Katie Ralls contributed career-highs of 13 points, seven assists and four rebounds to go with two steals and one block in 37 minutes of play. Charlena Martin also scored in double-digits with 10 points and added three assists and three steals in the win.

The Panthers scored an impressive 23 points off turnovers, swiped 14 steals and only committed 12 turnovers of their own. High Point also was effective at the charity stripe, hitting 14-of-18 for the game.

The Lady Bucs were led by LaKeshia Bryant (13 points, six rebounds). Erica McCoy also scored in double-digits (10 points).

High Point hosts Coastal Carolina Monday night in a regionally-televised Big South contest in the Millis Center (7:00 pm). The game will be broadcast live on the Big South TV Network on stations from Alabama to Virginia (including Channel 69 on Time Warner Cable in High Point/Greensboro).
