High Point fell 3-0 to Coastal Carolina in both teams' Big South Conference volleyball opener Friday night in Conway, S.C. The Lady Chants topped the Panthers by a line score of 30-14, 30-27, 30-18.

Kamarsha Ryan led HPU with 12 kills, while Lindsey Pickens added 10 kills.

After dropping the first game 30-14, the Panthers (5-14, 0-1 Big South) found themselves trailing in game two 27-25, but rallied to tie things up at 27-all after a Pickens kill and a ball-handling error on CCU. But the Lady Chants (7-6, 1-0) grabbed the final three points of the game and took a 2-0 lead, and then coasted to a 30-18 win in game three.

Ryan led HPU with a .276 hitting percentage. Pickens (13 digs) and Kim Anderson (10 digs) carried the Panthers defensively. Heather Butt provided 22 assists.

CCU got a match-high 13 kills from Katherine Jensen, while Sarah Bennett added 12 kills.

HPU continues the annual beach trip Saturday afternoon down the coast at Charleston Southern. First serve is set for 5:00 pm.
