Box Score 2 High Point's volleyball team downed Savannah State, 3-1, in its first match of the day, but lost a hard-fought five-game match to North Carolina A&T, 3-2, in the finale of the 2003 Aggie Classic on the A&T campus.
The Panthers went 2-2 overall in the five-team tournament.
Against Savannah State, the Panthers won by a line score of 30-22, 30-16, 26-30, 30-7.
Sabrina Wahid had a match-high 11 kills with two service aces, while
Heather Butt dished out 47 assists with four aces and three digs in the win.
The last match of the day proved to be the longest and the most exciting, as High Point pushed host North Carolina A&T to five games.
But the Aggies prevailed by a count of 30-19, 26-30, 32-34, 30-27, 15-17. Big South Freshman of the Week
Lindsey Pickens had a stellar performance, recording a team-high 20 kills, 14 digs and four block assists.
Kamarsha Ryan and
Heather Brooks also had solid matches with 18 and 14 kills, respectively. Butt had 53 assists and
Kim Anderson had a match-high 23 digs.
Ryan was named to the 2003 Aggie Classic All-Tournament Team.
The Panthers (3-10) will be back on the court Friday at Davidson for the National Tournament. High Point's first match is against Virginia. The first serve is scheduled for 10:00 am.
