Freshman Keauna Vinson scored a career-high 21 points and added nine rebounds to help lead High Point past Coastal Carolina, 90-70, Friday night in women's basketball action at the Millis Center.
The Panthers improve to 14-8, 6-3 in the Big South, while CCU falls to 9-10, 4-6 in league play.
High Point shot 58 percent from the field in the first half en route to a 46-36 halftime advantage. The Lady Chants led briefly by as much as five points, but HPU grabbed the lead for good with 10:49 to play in the opening period on two Misty Brockman free throws, which gave the Panthers a 20-19 advantage.
Behind Vinson (who was one rebound away from a double-double), Brockman (20 points) and Shannon O'Brien (a season-high 12 points off the bench), the Panthers were never threatened after halftime, although Coastal did shoot 48 percent from that point.
Nikki Reddick led the Lady Chants with 22 points, while Whitney Shearer poured in 21 points on 6-of-8 shooting from three-point range.
The game featured a whopping 52 fouls.
